When I worked as an estate agent I would often be asked by people; how can I sell my house quickly? The truth is that most of the time it is down to blind luck. In the recent boom times, if you lived in a nice area and the building was in good knick but not selling then chances are your price was too high. At the moment we not only have people struggling to make mortgage payments and therefore looking to move out, there are also a shortage of mortgages and what mortgages there are take the depressed market too much in to account when valuing the property.

When I went to sell my house quickly recently I found myself constantly undercut by prices of nearby bank repossessions and people looking to sell to avoid repossession. In the end, to sell my house quickly I was left with two options; drop my prices to match those of sellers who didn't care about making a profit, or finish my house to such a degree that the aesthetic would convince people to part with their cash.

Luckily I had enough spare cash lying around to make the improvements I knew would allow me to sell my house quickly. I filled a few cracks and repainted some rooms, then just gave it a really deep clean with things like washing the curtains, scrubbing window frames and polishing bathroom fixtures. Once the work was done it resulted in a relatively quick sale, so I would recommend it to anyone.
